Adopt the cycle path" starts in Naples, a KLM project

KLM’s new urban sustainable mobility project called “Adopt a Cycle Trail” has been launched in Naples. The program created in collaboration with PisteCiclabili.com and supported by the institutional contribution of the Vice President of the Senate, Gian Marco Centinaio, started with the symbolic handing over of the cycle path via Nuova Agnano-viale Kennedy. The Dutch company aims to promote sustainable urban mobility by covering the costs of maintaining and rebuilding cycle paths in Italian cities. For 2023, it has committed to support the management of the equivalent of 2 km. For 2024, however, KLM will cover the costs of an additional 5 km (total) of track.

Eleonore Tramusová KLM CEO for Italy: “It is a great pleasure for me to welcome Naples as the first city for the new KLM project. With this project we want to promote sustainable urban mobility by supporting municipalities with the maintenance of cycle paths.” greater sustainability and proximity to Italian travelers are very important to us.”

The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, also attended the symbolic handover of the cycle path: “This agreement with KLM is an important step. Not only in terms of the way it is a significant gift for us to the city but also from a symbolic point of view, because it allows us to maintain a part of the cycle path that is much used.”

The cities participating in the project besides Naples are currently Genoa and Rome. KLM invites users to join in supporting the development of the project. The more kilometers cyclists travel, the better chance their cities have for a maintenance grant. The ranking will be compiled thanks to a special smartphone application developed and managed by PisteCiclabili.com.

Thanks to Pnrr funding, Naples will have 60 kilometers of routes dedicated to cycling by 2026, with new sections between Fuorigrotta and Soccavo, in Scampia and San Giovanni. Councilor for Infrastructure and Mobility of the City of Naples Edoardo Cosenza: “We have already approved 3 projects for 38 kilometers of new cycle paths, where integrated contracts have already been awarded, so we are in the executive project phase and then the work will also start, which are the Pnrr funds. 38 kilometers is a lot and distributed in the areas east, west, and north”.
