Alex Iwobi shone bright:

Alex Iwobi shone bright with a brilliant brace that saw Fulham win 3-1 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion at Craven Cottage on Thursday night. The Nigerian forward started off by capitalizing on an early error to set the tone, and then delivered a sublime finish late in the game that sealed the points.

Fulham’s three points put them in sixth place in the Premier League, only one point behind Brighton in an increasingly competitive top half of the table.

Early Gift Fuels Fulham’s Fast Start

Fulham didn’t waste any time before finding themselves on the scoreboard, all thanks to a costly mistake from Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. Inside the fourth minute, Verbruggen’s misplaced pass fell invitingly for Iwobi inside the penalty area. In composed fashion, Iwobi slotted the ball into the net, in perfect beginning for the hosts.

Brighton’s Stylish Equalizer

Brighton emerged rejuvenated at halftime and were rewarded in the 56th minute. A clever initiative began with a long ball from Jan Paul van Hecke, which Joao Pedro cushioned perfectly into the path of Carlos Baleba. The latter unleashed a precise strike from 20 yards into the bottom left corner, leaving Leno with absolutely no chance and bringing it level.

The equalizer really showed off the flair and creativity of Brighton, but they failed to build on their momentum.

Fulham Regroup in Time

Fulham regrouped and restored their lead in the 79th minute, and it was a stroke of fortune. Andreas Pereira’s corner in toward the in-swinging corner caused chaos in Brighton’s box by deflecting off Matt O’Riley and into the bottom-right corner for an own goal.

The tide turned well and truly in favor of Fulham after this, and Brighton were found wanting to respond.

It was a game that could easily have gone either way until Alex Iwobi decided otherwise with a moment of sheer magic. Collecting the ball on the left hand side of Brighton’s penalty area, Iwobi made some quick feet before curling in a low shot with perfection into the far corner of the net.

The 87th-minute goal, Iwobi’s second of the night, showcased his skill and composure under pressure. It also solidified his status as Fulham’s difference-maker in an enthralling contest.

Tactical Insights

Fulham manager Marco Silva will be delighted with his team’s resilience and clinical finishing. Despite Brighton’s dominance in stretches, Fulham’s ability to defend resolutely and capitalize on key moments was decisive.

Brighton, under Fabian Hurzeler’s guidance, will rue their missed opportunities and defensive lapses. Verbruggen’s early mistake set the tone for a frustrating night, while O’Riley’s own goal and Iwobi’s late strike compounded their misery. Despite some moments of brilliance, including Baleba’s stunning equalizer, Brighton’s lack of a cutting edge proved costly.

What’s Next

Fulham will be looking to carry this momentum into their next match against Arsenal. For Iwobi, it will be a return to his former club, where he will look to produce another match-winning performance.

Brighton, on the other hand, will have to bounce back quickly to regain their early-season form. Hurzeler’s side needs to work on their defensive frailties and convert their chances into goals.
