A Glimpse into “James’s House” and “A Hunting Heart”

Maurizio Beucci and Claudio Composti curate the exhibition, drawing attention to the showcased projects – “James’s House” and “A Hunting Heart.”

“James’s House” unfolds a visual tale of Jacob Sobol’s three years immersed in Greenlandic life. Central to the narrative is James, an Inuit whose tutelage allowed Sobol to master the arts of hunting, fishing, and survival in the harsh Arctic environment. Sobol reminisces, “James taught me the nuances of seal-spotting and the craft of the hunter. He instilled in me the wisdom of knowing when to speak and when to embrace silence. Tiniteqilaaq, where I resided, found its heartbeat in James’s house – a realm filled with laughter, tears, and quietude, radiating warmth and embraces.”

Contrastingly, “A Hunting Heart” becomes a collaborative masterpiece where Jacob’s monochromatic lens intertwines with Sara’s vibrant perspective, offering the audience an intimate glimpse into their familial sphere. While Jacob’s images are imbued with the timeless allure of black and white, Sara introduces color to articulate her vision. The imagery delves into the intricacies of family life, portraying their children, home, and daily experiences with profound intensity and emotion.

Claudio Composti’s Reflections: Love Stories in Monochrome

Commenting on the exhibition, Claudio Composti reflects, “Family. Nature. Photography. Fundamental words for Jacob Aue Sobol. Every photograph is, at its core, a love story – a celebration of life, connection, and family bonds. “James’s House” and, even more profoundly, “A Hunting Heart” encapsulate the essence of love. A pivotal juncture in Jacob’s life was the meeting with Sara, his life partner and co-author of this project. Both photographers intertwine their lenses to capture their entire world in one continuous shot, akin to a stream of consciousness manifested through images, encapsulating the intricate circle that defines their daily existence.”

Visit the Leica Gallery in Milan and immerse yourself in the emotional depth and visual poetry of Jacob and Sara Aue Sobol’s photographic odyssey, a narrative woven with threads of love, family, and the profound connection to life’s essence.
