CAR REGISTRATIONS ITALY 2023: NUMBERS UP, BUT…
Looking more closely at the UNRAE data, there were in Italy in 2023 1,566,448 new registrations, compared to 1,316,773 in 2022 (+19.0%). A big jump, no doubt about it, but it should be considered that these numbers are still low compared to the pre-Covid period, given that 350,000 more cars were registered in 2019 (+18.3% compared to 2023). There are also concerns about the start of 2024 in light of the latest car incentive news, which predicts the Ecobonus will not start until the end of February, with the risk of the market being “frozen” while waiting for contributions. Maluccio, as we have seen, green cars: electrical increased but below expectations set on net market share (4.2%), now very close to disappointing plug-in hybrids (4.4%).
