BMW took off the veils for the new R 12 NineT and R 12. It was 2013 when the German manufacturer launched the R9T, a classic-style roadster that spawned a whole family of highly acclaimed models. Now BMW has decided to renew the R 12 NineT, of which it gave a small sample back in May. At the same time, it also revealed the new R 12, a cruiser for, as the brand underlines, a more relaxed and pleasant ride on the road.

BOXER ENGINE

Both bikes were born on the same platform. Both have a two-cylinder boxer with a volume of 1,170 cc. However, the unit setup is different. The engine provides 80 kW (109 hp) at 7,000 rpm in the R12 and 70 kW (95 hp) at 6,500 rpm in the R12. The new R 12 models also feature a new airbox that is now fully integrated under the seat. In addition, the German brand revised the exhaust system.

For its new models, BMW adopted a new tubular steel frame, which made it possible to reduce the weight. The rear subframe, also made of tubular steel, is bolted to the main frame.

The two new models can also count on 19- and 16-inch spoked wheels. Speaking of chassis, we find fully adjustable upside-down telescopic forks up front and a Paralever swing arm with a spring strut at the rear. The braking system includes two 310mm floating discs up front with 4-piston monobloc calipers. There is also the BMW Motorrad ABS Pro system.

In terms of electronics, the R 12 NineT has “Rain,” “Road,” and “Dynamic” driving modes, while the R 12 only has “Roll” and “Rock.”. DCT traction control, the engine torque control system, and keyless start are not missing.

The BMW R 12 NineT is equipped with two circular analog instruments for engine speed and revs, a USB-C port on the left, and a 12V socket on the right. Instead, the new R 12’s standard instrumentation is limited to a speedometer, but a tachometer can be fitted as an accessory.

The ergonomics of the UR 12 NineT have been improved thanks to a 30 mm shorter and narrower fuel tank in the rear. Each bike is available in three different colors. How much does it cost? new wheels? BMW R 12 9T 2024 starts at 18,950 euros, while BMW R 12 2024 starts at 15,900 euros.
