In delicate times like these, in which everything has unfortunately grown out of proportion, it never hurts to ask ourselves which places in the world are (still) worth traveling to because they are cheaper than elsewhere. Of course, this is not an easy question to answer, but luckily, research has been done to clear up a few doubts.
Study done
Ebury, The fintech company, which is currently one of the major players in the field of international payments, outlined a study through which it acquired and map of world locations where it is still convenient to travel. Among the results that emerged, there are certain certainties, namely that the exotic charm, low cost of local living, and favorable exchange rate fluctuations are three decisive factors for Italians when choosing a destination outside the borders of the European Union.
Beautiful countries such as Asia and South America are also particularly favorable because of what they have to offer: travelers can experience cultural experiences here, but also in the middle of nature and at the same time find favorable exchange rate options.
The analysis also shows that what determines passenger choice is the current (and complex) geopolitical situation, which in turn has led to a remarkable devaluation of some currencies against the euro. A devaluation that seems to have a positive effect on the purchasing power of Italian holidaymakers, allowing them to take advantage of favorable exchange rates in exotic destinations.
The most convenient destination
The strengthening of the euro against local currencies over the past twelve months, together with the low cost of living in these particular locations, means that the top more convenient destinations where our compatriots want to go are Argentina, India, and Nepal.
Compared to y, the euro strengthened by up to 122.58%. Mass Argentina reached a value of 387.4 Eur/Ars over the last year. All this translates into various advantages for Italians in terms of savings and purchasing power. The situation in India has not changed too much, where our currency grew by 7.71% compared to the Indian rupee, and in Nepal, the magical country, where the euro rose by 7.58% year-on-year. Nepalese rupee for a ratio of 1/145.84.
However, there is one fact that is not a little surprising, and that is that although they are not very cheap, the United Arab Emirates and the United States also appear to be bargains compared to the past. Reason? In these parts too, the euro saw growth: compared to December 2022, the European currency gained 1.11% compared to Dirhams UAE and around 1.15% compared to the American dollar. Even better is Japan, always a popular destination for Italian travelers, where the euro strengthened by 13.57%.
The study also shows that other factors that determine Italians’ choice of holiday are (as they always have been). the cost of the flight (40%) and the hotel (28%).
So we can say that the year that is coming to an end was indeed the right one resumption of international tourism worldwide: according to the analyses carried out international tourist arrivals have now reached 84% of pre-pandemic levels. Especially between January and July 2023, when 700 million tourists traveled outside their country, which is 43% more than in the same months of the previous year.
