Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa had to forget his recent fuss over himself after some histrionics following his over-the-top celebrations at Argentina’s Copa America triumph. He had to refocus on club duty, and nothing signaled that more than Delap’s opener creeping past him at his near post, although he made amends with a few crucial saves.
That one moment was almost perfect- when he blocked Delap in a one-to-one, spreading himself beautifully to push the striker’s effort wide. As Villa could not conserve the lead, Martinez’s heroics ensured they came back from Portman Road without being empty-handed.
