The Guglielmo Marconi University officially announces the appointment of Professor Marco Abate as the new grand rector for the three years 2024-2026, he is starting a new phase focused on supporting excellence and innovation in higher education, research, and international development.

In the dynamic realm of academia, the appointment of Professor Marc Abate as the new Rector signifies a momentous chapter in the journey of Unimarconi. Professor Abate brings to this esteemed position not only a robust academic background but also a wealth of experience garnered through years of dedicated service in higher education.

Having earned his degree in mathematics from the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, Professor Abate commenced his professional journey in 1989 as a researcher at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. His academic trajectory has been marked by a steady ascent, evolving from the role of a researcher to an Associate Professor in 1992 and eventually attaining the esteemed position of Full Professor at the University of Ancona in 1994. Since 2001, Professor Abate has held the distinguished title of Full Professor of Geometry at the University of Pisa, where his contributions have left an indelible mark on the academic landscape.

Beyond the borders of Italy, Professor Abate has extended his influence as a visiting professor at renowned institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley, and various other international universities and research institutions. This global engagement underscores his commitment to fostering cross-cultural academic exchanges and collaborations.

Within the University of Pisa, Professor Abate has been a pivotal figure, undertaking various leadership roles that have shaped the institution’s academic landscape. These roles include Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Chair of the Council for the Study Fields of Mathematics, Director of the Department of Mathematics, and Chair of the Evaluation Unit for universities. At the national level, his leadership has been equally impactful, leading the College of Presidents of Mathematics study courses and chairing the Expert Group for the Assessment of Mathematics and Informatics for VQR 2011-2014.

He has been a driving force in national committees, such as the National Council of Universities (CUN) Standing Committee on Policies for Assessment, Quality, and Internationalization of Higher Education, and has served as the president of CEVS for the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System (ANVUR). Professor Abate’s active involvement in the Board of Directors of the National Coordination of Evaluation Cores of Italian Universities (CoNVUI) further solidifies his commitment to upholding high academic standards.

Professor Abate’s dedication to knowledge dissemination is not confined to traditional classrooms. Internationally, he has conducted Ph.D. courses in various countries, including France, Great Britain, Spain, Germany, and more. Additionally, he has contributed to the advancement of mathematical research in developing nations, offering introductory courses in countries such as Libya, Nepal, Benin, and Pakistan, among others. His authorship of numerous textbooks attests to his efforts in making complex mathematical concepts accessible to a broader audience.

At the forefront of contemporary mathematical research, Professor Abate has delved into cutting-edge topics, contributing substantially to areas such as complex multivariable analysis, geometric function theory, complex differential geometry, and holomorphic dynamical systems. His research prowess is reflected in the publication of four scientific monographs and over 70 scientific articles in esteemed mathematical journals worldwide. Professor Abate has also taken on leadership roles as a local or national coordinator of PRIN, FIRB, and INdAM research projects, showcasing his commitment to advancing the frontiers of mathematical knowledge.
