Morata and Baena Shine as Spain Secures Commanding 3-0 Win Over Serbia

Spain’s relentless pressing and aerial precision led to a 3-0 win over Serbia. Laporte’s opener, followed by Morata and Baena’s brilliance, sealed the victory.

Introduction:

This was once their Group A4, but Spain remained the strong leader at the top of the table by winning 3-0 against Serbia in a rain-soaked encounter. Aymeric Laporte opened the scoring with a nice deft header early in the game. The tone was set for a match in which Spain dominated the air and never let the pressure slacken in the UEFA Nations League.

Laporte’s opener

The opening goal from a high, hanging cross by Pedro Porro, met by Laporte beyond the far post His header back across the goal bounced awkwardly in front of Rajković, gave Spain the 1-0 lead. It was Laporte’s second for his country and his first since the 2020 European Championship against Slovakia. Patience as well as sharpness in the opening phase were helpful indeed because Spain kept probing and poking at Serbia’s defense till the opening goal came.

Missed Opportunity:

Spain nearly doubled the lead when Merino headed a cross from Álex Baena into the post. The chance came from a quick counter organized by Oyarzabal, who had been ubiquitous throughout the game. His left-footed presence on the right wing was ceaseless bother for Serbia’s defense.

The game was quickened as the rain began to pour down. Thereby, the slick surface allowed for Spain with all their sharp passes to nearly get a hold of the weather. Zubimendi made a powerful left-footed strike which only managed to sail just over the bar with an inch from it.

Penalty Missed by Morata

Captain and defender Morata was even closer to scoring the second with a looping header. The Serbian goalkeeper, Rajković, trying to clear a cross from his area managed to acrobatically turn it with his right-hand side in order to somehow drive the ball away for a corner from Morata’s attempt. Rajković played an important part in saving Oyarzabal from scoring on two occasions in the first half which preserved Serbia’s chances in the match.

The second half began with Serbia attempting to resort to aerial strength of their captain Mitrović, but Spain was steadfast in defense. The strategy of La Roja to make use of the aerial route continued as Baena and Morata combined in dangerous situations more than once. Morata’s leadership qualities were evident both on as well as off the field even while he narrowly misses from the penalty spot, bringing back memories of the pressures that come with being Spain’s talisman.

Morata doubled the Score:

Spain did not need much motivation but showed they have patience when working into the opponent’s half. A move involving Oyarzabal, Fabián Ruiz, and Morata saw them create space for Spain’s second goal. With a cushion from Oyarzabal, Ruiz was able to thread it back to Morata. From there, the Milan forward curled a curling precision shot past the goalkeeper for the team to take the advantage.

Baena closed the deal:

A free-kick by Álex Baena that no one will ever forget sealed things off: a free-kick on the edge of the area, but more than that, there was the attacking position – right-footed Baena curled it over the wall past the motionless Rajković for Baena’s first competitive start in Spain’s main colors, and the young man celebrated his true beginning in earnest with an exquisite goal, showcasing his rise as one of Europe’s most promising talents.

The Serbian side fought hard and managed to hold out after Laporte’s early strike, frustrating Spain at times, but they never really could nullify the visitors’ ability to press up high and ultimately create chances through quick passes and clever movement.

This victory for Spain, a country missing most important players from the EURO 2024-winning team, is a testament to the depth of the side and to their tactical flexibility. Coach De la Fuente’s squad has once again shown that they could dominate even in the absence of key players and thus lays down proper credentials to rank it one of the top teams in Europe.

Conclusion:

The rain had abated, and Spain played like the outcome was all that mattered to go one step closer toward confirming their supremacy at the summit of Group A4. Outstanding performances by Morata, Laporte, and Baena meant no weakening in La Roja’s condition. Serbia, valiant as they were, just couldn’t muster any resistance against the finesse and precision of Spain’s attacking prowess.
