Introduction:

Czech rising star Linda Noskova put on a display of pure power and big-match maturity on No.1 Court, defeating Belgium’s Elise Mertens to reach her first-ever Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon 2026. The 21-year-old number nine seed handled searing temperatures and high-stakes pressure to secure a highly impressive 6-3, 7-5 victory in one hour and 50 minutes.

With this commanding win, Linda becomes the youngest women’s semifinalist at the All England Club since Jelena Ostapenko in 2018. The Czech powerhouse, who recently won her first grass-court title at the Berlin Open, carried her incredible momentum to dominate from the back of the court. Power Overcomes Defense in the Opening Set

The highly anticipated quarterfinal match began with a strategic test of nerves. The 30-year-old Mertens, a veteran 25th seed who entered the match fresh off a massive upset over world number two Elena Rybakina, won the toss and elected to return. She clearly hoped to exploit early nerves in her young opponent.

However, Linda looked completely unfazed by the grand stage. Armed with accurate serving and lightning-fast groundstrokes, she easily dictated the rallies from the baseline. Noskova fired seven aces throughout the match and won an outstanding 79 percent of her first-serve points. After applying relentless pressure, she broke the Belgian’s serve and wrapped up the opening set 6-3 with a diving backhand volley at the net.

Noskova Holds Firm Through Second-Set Pressure

The second set turned into a much closer tactical battle as Mertens raised her defensive intensity. The Belgian fought bravely to break into the match, but Noskova’s baseline depth proved impossible to contain. The young Czech pushed herself hard, manufacturing 11 total break points over the course of the match.

While Mertens managed to lock the score at 5-5, Noskova broke through yet again in the crucial 11th game. Showing emotional composure way beyond her years, she served out the match to love, sealing the final set 7-5. Noskova advances to face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the last four, guaranteeing a first-time Grand Slam finalist.
