Traffic on December 29, 30, 31, 2023 and January 1, 2024: predictions

A desire to make the most of the holidays and a generally fair weather forecast will drive many Italians to holiday resorts to celebrate the arrival of New Year. So there will be many vehicles on the roads and highways New Year’s weekendand to begin with, let’s see what the information is on operation on 29, 30, 31 December 2023, and 1 January 2024.

TRAFFIC 29, 30, 31 DECEMBER 2023 AND 1 JANUARY 2024: NEW YEAR’S EVE ROAD

Information on operations on 29, 30, and 31 December 2023 and 1 January 2024 predict a rather demanding weekend for traffic from the morning of Friday the 29th towards important mountain tourist centers and cities of art. The situation will remain critical the next day as well it will continue on the 31st, at least until the early afternoon. After the ‘truce’ on New Year’s morning, traffic will be very heavy again from 1 pm to evening, both for returns and new departures given Epiphany. Fortunately, from December 30th to January 1st, travelers will be able to count on a fairly mild weather situation, which currently includes isolated precipitation.

OPERATION DECEMBER 29, 2023

As already mentioned, December 29 is the day when the largest number of exits with traffic between intensive and critical will be concentrated from the early hours of the morning (there is even a black dot heading north on the Brenner motorway). So pay attention to the directions they lead main winter tourist locations Alps and Apennines and on the arteries towards art capitals such as Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, and more. When leaving the main city centers (Milan, Turin and Rome and Naples itself) traffic jams can naturally form.

Forecast: many clouds over Liguria and Val Padana with occasional rain or drizzle in eastern Liguria and rarely in the plains. Cloudy on Wednesday only in the Tyrrhenian regions and in Umbria with isolated rain in Tuscany, sunnier in the Adriatic and southern regions.

New Year's Eve operation

OPERATION DECEMBER 30, 2023

New Year’s Eve traffic forecasts identify v December 30, 2023, a potentially difficult day, at least in the first half, considering that the roads and highways will be driven in all directions by those who could not go out on Friday for work reasons and chose to travel on Saturday morning. The arteries with the greatest traffic risk are those described earlier. If you don’t want to waste long hours in line, opt for a “smart” departure time very early in the morning, such as 6:00 a.m. or in the afternoon after 3:00 p.m.

Forecast: in the north, low clouds in Liguria, and in the lower Po plain with occasional rain or drizzle, elsewhere large clearings. In central Italy, the situation remains unstable in Tuscany, Lazio, and Umbria with the probability of light rain, in the south a mixture of sun and clouds, but without significant phenomena.

OPERATION DECEMBER 31, 2023

On New Year’s Eve, heavy traffic is expected on the busiest arteries of the given period, especially in the time slot from 6 to 12 and in the same way, from 12 to 18 hours which the road system normalizes as passengers mostly reach their destination.

Forecast: very cloudy or cloudy with light rain intensifying in the evening in Liguria, Lombardy, and Trivenet and snow coming in the Alps Many clouds also in the Tyrrhenian areas with occasional rain in the upper part of Tuscany, more widespread in the evening. A mix of sunny weather and clouds in the south, but no precipitation is expected.

OPERATION JANUARY 1, 2024

Monday, January 1, 2024after celebrating the arrival of the new year, a decent percentage of vacationers will travel for the New Year to return to the office. Since many will stay up late and wake up peacefully, traffic will begin to thicken mainly in the early afternoon. Highways towards large cities are particularly affected.
