One of the most anticipated events is just over a month away in Salzburg, Mozart which is held annually on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of the famous composer.
The connection between the city (and more generally Austria) and music in all its forms has a strong and deeply rooted tradition and countless events cannot be missed, among which there are indeed seven days dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Mozart Week, a festival that pays tribute to the genius of Mozart’s music
The evocative and engaging Mozart Week was born in 1956 by order Foundation Mozarteum Salzburgthe most important institution in the world for the preservation and dissemination of Mozart’s great cultural heritage, and since then regularly invites citizens and tourists to pay tribute to the famous composer who has made his mark in the history of music at an international level.
That is, during the last week of January, considering the anniversary of his birthday day 27the foundation created a series of high-level concerts guided tours, conferences, and many other events that take place in the various theaters and prestigious spaces of Salzburg, the city that gave birth to him.
And for 2024 an exciting event from January 24 to February 4hosts big news: the foundation wants to “break” the cycle of events dedicated exclusively to Mozart, to expand tourists’ knowledge of him and offer them the possibility to discover, in addition to his works, and other important composers and Mozart performers from around the world.
In particular, next year he will take the stage as a co-protagonist Antonio Salierian equally important composer considered by many to be Mozart’s legendary opponent. It’s not clear what type of relationship existed between them, but Salieri was one too-thick figure in the musical panorama of the 18th century: in fact, he taught great composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, and Haydn.
Anyone who visits Salzburg during Mozart Week will be able to admire a very important portrait of the composer or Mozart in Veronaand world famous painting which after years finally returns to the city within the walls of the Foundation and joins the other jealously guarded works of immeasurable value.
The portrait shows an elegant young man in a jacket: in the portrait, Mozart has just turned around fourteen years and he has already been established as a successful professional musician. It was in Italy that he signed contracts for his first major works, and wherever he went he was recognized as a genius and an exceptional musician.
The painting will be part of the exhibition Mozart: how beautiful! Genius in Italy which contains fifty pieces of unfathomable value: letters, travel notes, scores, sketches of compositions, contracts, diplomas, musical instruments, and others, all items that highlight one of the most important stages of the creative process genius loci of Salzburg or Mozart’s first visit to Italy.
