The story of a lake that doesn’t want to disappear
Our journey today will take us to Trentino, a region of unpolluted landscapes and lakes of a thousand colors, the same ones that travelers from all over the world reach every day.
At an altitude of 224 meters above sea level, between Torbole and Manzano, we find Lake Loppio where the lake is no more. After the construction of the Adige-Garda tunnel, the body of water lost its flow, although it remains an important wetland.
It is the largest wetland area in the entire autonomous province of Trento, as well as a naturalistic point of special interest for all tourists. The dry pan has become fertile ground for lush vegetation as well as a habitat for numerous faunal specimens.
Moreover, in this area, it is possible to go bird watching. The banks of the basin offer various strategic positions to admire the life and daily life of birds.
However, as we expected, only a biotope remains of this magnificent alpine lake, and as such it is protected. However, it does happen, albeit rarely, that heavy rainfall fills the basin, even if only for a few days. And it happened just now: after two long years, the lake shines again.
After two years, the lake reappears: a spectacle of nature
Nature-like magic Lake Loppio unexpectedly shone again. It’s not magic, although we like to imagine it is, but the cause is to be found in the heavy rains that fell on the area last November. These filled the basin again and allowed the lake to emerge.
The news, of course, bypassed the web exciting everyone who hasn’t seen the waters in a while. Lake Loppio was last seen, in fact, dates from summer 2021. After this point, the lake disappeared, leaving a green but dry reservoir in its place.
For a long time, it was believed that the lake was now just a distant memory, but instead, nature took its course and finally provided a unique spectacle when the lake reappeared. So if you’re thinking of a trip to the province of Trento, don’t miss this limited-time tour.
