Jeep – Avenger hybrid and 4×4, new Compass, Renegade: the future between news and confirmations

Avenger e-Hybrid

The hybrid version of the Avenger made official some time ago, will indeed arrive at dealerships in the first quarter of next year. The 100 HP e-Hybrid, offered in the 2024 model year with prices starting at €26,000, uses a 1.2-cylinder turbo petrol engine with two electric units, one of which is integrated into a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The latter contributes 29 HP of thrust and is powered by a small lithium-ion battery that recharges during braking and release, as well as by a second electric motor that acts as a generator and starter.

Avenger 4×4

By the end of 2024, we will also see the first Avenger with all-wheel drive, which will be derived from the 4x concept revealed at the Paris Motor Show 2022. It will be a model with off-road connotations (it cannot be ruled out that it could adopt the name Trailhawk), aesthetic, and above all technical. All-wheel drive will almost certainly enable the use of a rear electric motor: the most concrete hypothesis is that of a fully electric powertrain, while the plug-in hybrid does not have an easy life in this segment. The Avenger 4×4 will be able to count on higher ground clearance and will be equipped with larger tires, towing hooks, and probably also specific bumpers designed with the expansion of approach and departure angles in mind. The already announced goal is to have the best off-road performance in the segment.

Renegade

Before the Avenger, it was the gateway to the Jeep Renegade range. A model that will reach its mid-decade mark in 2024: launched in 2014, it has remained largely unchanged, limited to updates and model years with new engines. Its longevity is certainly due to its design, but also its compact dimensions and affordable prices: Jeep does not want to retire the Renegade and intends to offer it until the effective introduction of Euro 7 regulation, i.e. no earlier than 2026. Confirm it, this is the same company: “The Renegade accounts for a third of our sales. There are those that age well and those that age badly: it has aged very well. It has this iconic design that has allowed it to stay out of style: otherwise, it wouldn’t be, we’d be counting volumes in 2021 even in 2023. We plan to offer the Renegade for as long as possible, maybe up to Euro 7. Then we work to cover that space. Today, the Avenger, which by choice aims at the lowest part of the B-SUV: with its 4 meters and 8 centimeters, comes very close to the dimensions of the Peugeot 208. This means that the Avenger is a car capable of attacking the small hatchback segment as well. for the upper part of the B-SUV segment: it is planned, but at the moment the Renegade still has a few years to go.”

Compass

The commercial success of the Compass prompted Jeep to make only minor improvements to the SUV, which has been on the market since 2016. Its career will also continue in 2024, with the debut of the heir expected in 2025: the new Compass will have little in common with the current model on an aesthetic level, especially inside, while the mechanical basis will probably be the Stla Medium debuted with the new Peugeot 3008. Also for this reason, the new Compass could be offered in both electric and hybrid versions.
